East Coast Railway (ECoR) has carried highest ever freight loading in 2017-18 financial year and became the highest freight loading Zone of Indian Railways.
This Railway has carried 182.75 million tons of freight in its originating freight loading in the current financial year, i.e. from April 2017 to March 2018 as against 177.43 million tons loaded during the corresponding period of last financial year. This is 15.70% of the total freight loading by Indian Railways which is highest portion of loading by any Zonal Railways. In the 2017-18 financial year, Indian Railways has loaded 1162 million tonnes of freight in toto.
Behind ECoR, other Zonal Railways like South East central loaded 180.10 Million tonnes and South Eastern Railway loaded 150.76 million tonnes, at Sl. No 2 & 3 respectively.
From the earning side of freight in 2017-18 financial year, East Coast Railway has earned 17075 Crores of revenue which is 7.6% more than the corresponding period of 2016-17 financial year. In 2016-17 financial year, ECoR had earned 15864 Crores of revenue from freight only.
During the last financial year, East Coast Railway has carried 104.58 million tonnes of Coal, 29.58 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 14.31 Million tonnes of Steel, 05.87 million tonnes of Fertilizers and 05.19 million tonnes of raw materials for Steel Plants other than iron ore.
Apart from this, East Coast Railway has also performed outstandingly well at No. 1 position in Financial Management in Indian Railways.
In view of the outstanding performance in the field of Operations and Finance Management amongst the Zonal Railways of the country, East Coast Railway has been nominated to get the prestigious Operations Shield and Accounts & Finance Management Shield for the year 2017-18 in the National Railway Week Celebrations scheduled to be held at Bhopal on 16thApril, 2018.
East Coast Railway General Manager Shri Umesh Singh, Principal Chief Operations Manager Shri Debaraj Panda and Principal Financial Advisor Shri Manocha have been invited by Railway Board to receive the two prestigious Shields from the hands of Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Shri Piyush Goyal.
All these achievements of East Coast Railway have been possible even in the face of hurdles like Left-wing extremism in Bastar & Dantewada districts of Chhattisgarh; repeated disruptions in Coal loading at Talcher and over all Global Economic Slowdown.
