Independence Day Celebration

        East Coast Railway observed the 71ST Independence Day at Railway Stadium, Bhubaneswar where Shri Umesh Singh, General Manager unfurled the National Flag and exchanged salute in the parade organised by Railway Protection Force (RPF), Civil Defence, Bharat Scouts & Guides and School Children.


Speaking on the occasion, Shri Singh highlighted the performance of ECoR and  collective efforts by the Railway Employees. A cultural programme was also organised to mark this occasion where volunteers of Bharat Scouts & Guides and School Children were performed. A Dog Show has also been conducted by RPF to mark the occasion. Shri Rajiv Sharma, Addl. General Manager

; Smt. Madhulika Singh​, President, East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organisation, all officers, staff & their family members were
 present on the occasion. Shri Tatwadarsi Sahoo, Dy. General Manager, co-ordinated the programme.



Highlights of the performance of East Coast Railway informed by General Manager:



In terms of freight loading and revenue, East Coast Railway became the second best zone over Indian Railways. ECoR registered a record loading of 177.43 MT and transported 95.97 million passengers during 2016-17. In the originating earnings, ECoR stood at Rs. 17773.72 crores. The operating ratio of ECoR stands at 53.78 %, which is one of the best among the 17 Zonal Railways. ECoR is doing exceedingly well this year also, as confirmed from the results of the 1st quarter of current Financial Year.


Passenger Amenities

During the 1st quarter of the current Financial Year many passenger amenities related work has been done. ECoR has run 463 special trains and augmented 914 coaches in regular trains to clear waitlisted passengers. Two new stations namely, Bolagarh Town PH & Nayagarh Town, extension of two train services i.e. Passenger train from Rajsunakhala to Bolagarh Town and then to Naygarh Town, UTS at Nayagarh Town, FOB at Jharsugda Road station, and also additional platform sheds at 12 stations were achieved. Free Wi-Fi facilities have been extended to Sambalpur & Vizianagaram.


          Contract has been awarded for setting up of three mechanised laundries under BOOT model at Bhubaneswar, Puri andVisakhpatnam Coaching depots for facilitating supply of superior quality cleaned linen to passengers.


          The specially-designed Vistadome coach with large glass windows and an observation lounge from Visakhapatnam to Araku valley hill station has been introduced in daily service since April 2017.


Safety & Security

To address Safety concern closure of level crossings, manning of unmanned level crossings, building of ROBs and FOBs, etc. Especially to avoid accidents at level crossings, eight nos. of unmanned level crossings and seven manned level crossings have been permanently closed by providing limited height subways/ ROBs or by manning in the 1st quarter of 2017-18.


          Intensive drives were conducted by our Security Department to remove undesirable elements from trains and railway premises in which 10089 offenders were arrested and prosecuted under various sections of the Railways Act and fined to the tune of over Rs. 7.34 lakhs in the 1st quarter of the current financial year.


Expansion of Rail Network:

For expansion of railway network and services is this entire Eastern region, our focus is now aimed towards connecting the unconnected areas and taking Railways to smaller towns and backward regions. During the year 17-18, Bolagarh-Nayagarh section (11.30 Km.) of Khurda Road –Balangir new line was commissioned in June 2017. Doubling projects like Tokopal- Bodearapur section ( 5. 60 Km) , Dilimili- Silakjhori section ( 11.40 Km) and Bodearapur-Dilimili section ( 11.20 Km) along with Railway Electrification work of Kirandul- Jagdalpur Doubling Project , Bhubaneswar New-Mancheswar section (6.66 Km.) of Khurda Road- Barang Doubling project , Chudangagarh –Bhubaneswar New section (6.04) of Raj Athagarh-Barang Doubling project,  Hirakud-Godbhaga section (8.60 Km.) of Sambalpur-Titlagarh- Doubling project , Chilikdhara-Harichandanpur-Nilakantheswar-Sitabinj section (32 Km.) & Naranpur-Keonjhar-Porjanpur section (25.83 Km.) of Banspani- Daitari –Tomka –Jakhapura doubling project, Titlagarh-Muribahal-Kantabanji  section (31 Km.) of Raipur-Titlagarh doubling Project   were  commissioned during the current Financial Year.


          Work on three important projects, namely, Vadlapudi POH Workshop, MEMU Shed at Khurda Road and Multi-Disciplinary Training Centre at Cuttack, is progressing well as per schedule. All these works will surely bring about marked improvement in train operations and the current phase of works commissioned will surely be remembered as a Glorious Phase of Construction and Commissioning.


Digital initiatives:

ECoR commitment towards Digital India remains steadfast with the implementation of cent per cent E-tendering and wide proliferation of cashless transactions in interface with customers.


Human Resource:

          For ECoR’s creditable performance in Human Resources Management, East Coast Railway received the Personnel Management Shield in the 62nd Railway Week National Awards.
